What Microsoft Clarity does
Clarity is Microsoft’s free alternative to Hotjar. Because it is free, it is widely deployed. It records sessions, builds heatmaps, and flags "rage clicks" and other friction, sending the interaction data to Microsoft.
What it collects
- Session recordings of mouse, click and scroll activity
- Heatmaps and interaction friction signals
- Device and browser information
Should you block Microsoft Clarity?
Like Hotjar, it records your behaviour on the page in detail and sends it to a third party. Its zero cost means it appears on a large and growing number of sites.
How to block Microsoft Clarity
- Install the free GeraGuard extension for Chrome.
- Tracker blocking is on by default — GeraGuard blocks Microsoft Clarity and other session replay trackers using regularly updated filter lists, with no setup required.
- Confirm it is blocked by opening the GeraGuard panel, or run the page through the Privacy Scanner.
