What Google Ads / DoubleClick does
These advertising tags (served from doubleclick.net and googleadservices.com) record when you visit a page after seeing an ad, and add you to remarketing audiences so advertisers can show you ads again across millions of sites and YouTube.
What it collects
- Whether your visit followed an ad click (conversion tracking)
- Pages visited, to build remarketing/retargeting audiences
- A persistent advertising identifier tied to Google’s cookie
- Cross-site activity within Google’s display network
Should you block Google Ads / DoubleClick?
These tags exist purely to profile you for advertising. They have no functional benefit to you as a visitor and are a primary mechanism of being followed by ads around the web.
How to block Google Ads / DoubleClick
- Install the free GeraGuard extension for Chrome.
- Tracker blocking is on by default — GeraGuard blocks Google Ads / DoubleClick and other advertising trackers using regularly updated filter lists, with no setup required.
- Confirm it is blocked by opening the GeraGuard panel, or run the page through the Privacy Scanner.
