What Criteo does
Criteo specialises in dynamic retargeting: after you browse a product, its tag enables ads featuring that exact product to follow you across other websites. It builds detailed shopping-intent profiles.
What it collects
- Products and pages you viewed on retailer sites
- Shopping intent and basket behaviour
- A cross-site advertising identifier
Should you block Criteo?
Criteo is the classic "the shoes followed me everywhere" tracker. It exists solely to retarget you with ads and builds a detailed commercial profile.
How to block Criteo
- Install the free GeraGuard extension for Chrome.
- Tracker blocking is on by default — GeraGuard blocks Criteo and other advertising trackers using regularly updated filter lists, with no setup required.
- Confirm it is blocked by opening the GeraGuard panel, or run the page through the Privacy Scanner.
